The anti-Genki: a teacher in a book — comfort first, pace second.

Japanese From Zero is what you buy when a university textbook feels like a wall: a chatty lesson voice, exercises with the answers in the back, and a free 162-video series in which the author teaches every chapter himself. The famous romaji-to-hiragana fade — each lesson's new kana permanently replace their romaji — genuinely lowers the entry barrier if kana is what stops you. The bill comes as pace: verbs arrive near the end of Book 1, katakana waits for Book 2, and the five-book series covers roughly what the standard course does in two volumes, topping out around JLPT N4 by community consensus.
